Let's privatise medical science

by prakash Ghimire
The investment on medical science by government of Nepal is worthless not only for country but also for society and its tax payers. We see the most unethical professionals in Nepal are the Doctors. If you find anyone who is seeking for the study of medical science and probably going to NAME or SACHDEVAA seems very patriotic. S/he talks about country's situation, curses political leaders and gives lectures on patriotism and humanity. S/he argues that s/he is ready to work anywhere in Nepal (probably even in Rukum, Rolpa) if s/he is provided opportunity to study in medical science. S/he talks about fair system of merits and opposes the system of capitalist society where a student only from rich family can learn in medical science. When s/he passes in entrance examination, s/he starts to change his/her tuning. S/he ignores the examination of Nepal medical council and starts to study for US MLA. He closes the eyes on the news about the dying people in remote Nepal (probably the districts that s/he was committed to serve before his study) due to lack of doctor's care and throws on the announcement about PR in US, Aus or Canada. S/he again starts to curse Nepali society and its pay roll system and say that to work in Nepal means to undervalue his education. Now s/he forgets his initial objectives and humanity. We couldn't find any try from youth doctors to change our society from conventional to new one that s/he wishes. Thanks goes only to Drs Aruna Upreti, Arun Sayami and very few others who are continuously compensating their tax payers who had invested to their study and serving their motherland. So what does the investment in medical science mean to a tax payer— a poor Nepali people? It is "Hatti aayo hattai aayo fussaa" or Kagalai belpakyo harsa na bismaat". I don't mean that the view points of current doctors are incorrect. Yes, it his individual liberty to choose profession and place where s/he likes to stay. Any one is free to decide about own's future. But I mean that government investment is not necessary more in this field. If a doctor financed by government of Nepal serves to the people of Canada or US it doesn’t make sense to poor Nepali. Better, let's privatize all medical education in Nepal. So the only who are able to invest can study. And so no moral and ethical HANGS remain to 'would be' doctors. pls send to doctors you know

BRAIN-DRAIN, the emerging national problem is within the same line of the issues of medical students following US MLA and finally landing in to the american land to earn the ammerican life and ammerican dollors (not to serve the american people as their objective).
But we are expecting them to have their least priority (serve) to be first priority for us.
The best way as for solution would be to make agreement with the students who are receiving medical education in Nepal with government financing that they can have further education abroad but right after completion of abroad education, they are required to come back to country to serve the Nepali. THIS CONDITION IS APPLIED FOR THE STUDENTS WHO RECEIVE MEDICAL EDUCATION THROUGH GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP. This sort of conditions are made to students receiving the scholrships like fulbright..

When we look deeply in this issue, may be Prakash is right in some ways. We can see ,as Bimal poudel said, Brain-Drain is current problem. However in practical life we can find difficulties to stay in rural areas as well as urban city areas because of the conflict. In the name of conflict a Nepali can kill other Nepali.A brother killing brother! what cruel mockery is this!

Hence, I saw the way to find this solution about doctors is deep-rooted with the issue of political conflict and having no strict ethical law.
